What to expect
TF-21 across Teide National Park is the legendary central section — often called Europe’s most Mars-like road. You’re riding across the floor of an ancient mega-volcano at 2,000+ metres, surrounded by black, red and yellow lava fields with zero vegetation and unobstructed 360° views.
Starting at Portillo Alto (2,030 m) and running west toward Mirador de Juan Évora, the road threads through a UNESCO World Heritage landscape that has appeared in countless films as an alien planet. Mount Teide — Spain’s highest peak at 3,715 m — sits to the north.
Temperatures up here can be 20 °C cooler than the coast. Air is thinner. Light hits differently. This is the section that makes Tenerife a bucket-list ride.
